S tarting from the 70s, Lake Garda has been a major attraction for mounting climbing lovers. In those days a new discipline called free-climbing was developed. The practice of this sport requires the use of cliffs that have a special conformation so as to hammer spits into them that are safe and permanent.
![]() This procedure has allowed climbers to improve their performance and to practice more safely and as often as possible. As a consequence, more and more enthusiasts have been attracted by this fascinating sport. Both inexperienced and professionals can choose the wall that is right for them. ![]() In the last years the interest of free climbers for the south eastern side of the lake is growing, due to the increase of the equipped walls between Garda, Marciaga and the slopes of Monte Baldo. Beginners can practice near the Golf Club Ca’degli Ulivi in Marciaga thanks to the conformation of the local cliffs. Between Torbole and Nago, on the Northern shore of the Lake, and near the water, one can practice at Corno di Bò, Torbolino and Spiaggia delle Lucertole. The best area, the “champion” of all climbing sites is by all means the Sarca Valley. Arco, an impressive town only 5 km away from the lake’s Northern shore, is the most famous free-climbing centre. Climbers from all over Europe choose this region for its favourable climate, for the network of tourist facilities, and for the accessibility of the cliffs.
What is the Climber’s Lounge? It is the highest artificial open-air wall available in Europe, more precisely in Arco, that hosts the spectacular Rock Master International Competition every year. In the Climber’s Lounge premises – famous for promoting climbing competitions -, all activities are focussed on advertising free-climbing. Daily classes are offered to all children under the supervision of skilful instructors and rental equipment is widely available.
